📚📝🎓 CAT (Common Admission Test) is one of the most prestigious MBA entrance exams in the country. It is a gateway into one of the 20 IIMs in India. 🎓🌟 The exam consists of three sections:
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension 📖🧠
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning 📊🔍
Quantitative Ability ➕📈
The section of Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension includes RC, Para Summary, Para Completion, Para Jumbles, Odd Sentence Out. 📚🔎💭 Another important aspect about this section is Vocabulary. 📝🗣️ CAT does not ask direct questions on vocabulary instead it incorporates complex words into the questions in the VARC section. 🤔❓ Unless the candidate knows the meaning of a word, he cannot solve it correctly. ❌✅
Vocabulary in English, or in any language, is expansive and the list keeps getting added on. 🌍📚 If one tries to memorize all the words in the dictionary, then also it will be useless as one would only learn its meaning and not how to use it in a sentence. 🤔⛔ If the candidate has a weak vocabulary, he will have difficulty in solving questions in this section as VARC section is all about comprehensions. 📚❗ Without a good vocabulary, the scoring would be affected. ❌🔢📉

Few tips for improving vocabulary:
1. Reading: How to have a great vocabulary?
Reading is the best way to increase vocabulary. The habit of reading novels, magazines, newspapers, digests, etc. regularly can help immensely. More reading can lead to more learning. Along with vocabulary, general knowledge would also improve. Reading should be done one or two hours daily. But reading should not be limited to the same type of material rather it should be diversified.
2. Always keeping a dictionary:
Nowadays, dictionary is available in the smart – phones. Along with the meaning of a word, its pronunciation, its etymology, i.e. its origin can also be learnt. By using a Thesaurus, similar words can be found and their appropriate usage can be distinguished as two words can have the same meaning but different connotations.
3. Using a journal/ vocab – notebook:
It would help greatly to keep a journal just for noting down vocabulary. Revision can be done in free time. Writing down something always helps in registering it to memory. The stocking up of new words on a regular basis would help boost motivation and morale to keep doing it consistently.
4. Learning etymology or roots of word:
Various memory techniques like association, imagery can greatly help your learning for better grasp and quicker recall. For the CAT exam vocabulary, using various tricks and techniques will make improving your CAT vocabulary easy.
5. Interacting with people:
Talking to people helps you to use newly learned words in conversations else they can be forgotten in a week. This will help in recalling the new words and learning their connotation. When you are interacting and learn a new word, list it in your journal. This is also a great way to make new friends.
6. Learning 5 new words everyday: Words for CAT exam
Learning 5 new words everyday is a small target but it will help in making this process consistent. There are various websites or apps that help in building vocabulary.
