Under the auspices of the University of Mumbai, the Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship Education (SIMSREE) is one of the leading management schools in India. In 1913, it was named for Lord Sydenham of Combe, the Bombay governor at the time. He played a pioneering role in the expansion of commerce-oriented vocational education in India. As a result, Sydenham College rose to prominence as the oldest college in business to issue degrees. The SIMSREE was founded in 1983. The college’s first honorary principal was K.S. Aiyar. The subject was first offered by other institutions in 1941, which was twenty-eight years after Sydenham College was founded.
