Located in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India, is the Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (IIM Ranchi, a public business school. On December 15, 2009, it was founded, making it the eleventh Indian Institute of Management in India. The institute was founded on July 6, 2010, which was the first day of classes under the 11th Five Year Plan.
In addition to Management Development Programmes (MDPs) covering various management streams, IIM Ranchi offers integrated, postgraduate, doctorate, and executive programmes in management education. The Common Admission Test (CAT) results, along with results from additional rounds of in-person interviews and written examinations, are used to determine admission to the institute.

Six new IIMs were to be established, according to the 11th Five-Year Plan, which was approved by the National Development Council in December 2007.
Like all other IIMs, IIM Ranchi is a government of India ministry of human resources development. It is an autonomous organisation. The institute is free to choose its own instructors and create its own curricula. Union Minister Kapil Sibal declared in April 2011 that the government is considering giving IIMs more autonomy by letting them choose their own directors and chairman of the board of directors.
One of the six new IIMs that the Union Cabinet approved on August 27, 2009, is IIM Ranchi. The institute’s first director was M. J. Xavier.
