Application process: Stage I
The PGP admission process at IIMB starts with the submission of the online application form.
Presentation of employment claims that are false will be dealt with severely. A candidate who is found to have
provided incorrect information about work experience will not be considered further for admission.
Furthermore, the candidate will be barred from applying to any programme at IIMB for the next 3 years.
Based on the pre-PI score, a certain number of candidates from each category are selected for the next stage in the
admission process.
Application process: Stage II
The second stage of the admissions process at IIMB consists of a personal interview (PI) and a Written Ability Test
(WAT) where candidates will be required to write a note.
For all candidates called for interviews, the weights for the parameters at the post-PI stage are as follows :
Personal interview = 40, WAT = 10, CAT = 25 , 10th board score = 5, 12th board score = 5, Bachelor’s
score = 5, Work Experience / Professional Course = 10. The 25 points for CAT are derived from the
performance in each of the three sections as follows: Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VARC) – 8.75
points, Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) – 10 points, and Quantitative Aptitude (QA) –
6.25 points.
Final offers of admission to candidates from each category will be made strictly on the basis of the post-PI scores.
- The PI and the WAT will happen on the same day and in the same location. The duration of the WAT is approximately 30 minutes. The WAT will be evaluated based on the content and style of the note.
- The work experience weight assigned while computing the Pre-PI score is scaled down from 10 to 5 during the post PI process to arrive at the composite score. This work experience score will be multiplied by the quality of experience score where the latter will be evaluated on a 5 point scale (0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2) by each member of the interview panel. The average quality of work experience score will be multiplied by the pre-PI work experience score to arrive at a revised weighted work experience score.
Pre-PI Scoring Framework
The following criteria and weightages apply to candidates selected for the first shortlist. This pre-PI (Personal Interview) score determines eligibility for the subsequent selection stage.
Component Weightage Breakdown
The maximum attainable pre-PI score is 100 points, distributed across six primary categories:
| Evaluation Component | Maximum Weight |
|---|---|
| Common Admission Test (CAT) | 55 |
| 10th Board Examination | 10 |
| 12th Board Examination | 10 |
| Bachelor’s Degree Score | 10 |
| Work Experience / Professional Certification | 10 |
| Gender Diversity | 5 |
CAT Sectional Breakdown
The 55 points allocated to CAT performance are further subdivided by section:
- Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VARC): 19 points
- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR): 21 points
- Quantitative Aptitude (QA): 15 points
Academic and Professional Guidelines
Normalization and COVID Adjustments
All academic scores (10th, 12th, and Bachelor’s) undergo a normalization process.
- Missing Scores: If a candidate lacks 10th, 12th, or Bachelor’s scores due to COVID-19 related cancellations, those weights are redistributed proportionally among the remaining evaluation components.
- Incomplete Degrees: For Bachelor’s scores, intermediate results are considered only if the final graduation score is currently pending.
Professional Certifications
Candidates holding a completed Chartered Accountancy (CA), Cost Accounting (ICWA), or Company Secretary (CS) certification are eligible for weightage under the professional course category. These scores are normalized upon completion of the final year.
Work Experience Calculation
Work experience is evaluated based on the total number of months (x) completed up to July 2026:
- Less than 36 months: Score = 10x / 36
- 36 months or more: Score = 10 (Full marks)
Exclusions: The following are not counted toward work experience:
- Internships (pursued during or after study).
- Apprenticeships or articleships (e.g., CA articleship).
- Unpaid work or volunteer positions.
Note: For candidates possessing both professional certifications and work experience, the higher of the two scores is utilized for the final calculation.
Standardization Methodology
To ensure fairness across different boards and disciplines, raw scores (val) are converted into standardized scores, truncated between 0 and the component weight (wt), using the following formula:
Standardized Score = Max [0, min {wt, wt/2 + ((val – mean) / sd) * wt / 6}]
- val: Candidate’s raw score
- mean: Average score of the population
- sd: Standard deviation of the population
- wt: Maximum weight assigned to the component
Please note: The Gender Diversity component (5 points) is utilized exclusively for the pre-PI score and does not carry over to the final selection stage.
