IIM Ahmedabad Admission Process
PGP Admission (CAT-based)
The admission to the flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP) is a multi-staged process beginning with the Common Admission Test (CAT). Candidates are first shortlisted based on their CAT percentiles and academic profiles. Shortlisted individuals must then undergo the Academic Writing Test (AWT) and a Personal Interview (PI). Final selection is determined by a composite score that integrates CAT performance, interview results, and past academic records.
Other Programs (Executive/Fellow)
The PGPX program caters to mid-career professionals, utilizing GMAT or GRE scores for initial screening followed by intensive interviews. The PhD (Fellowship) program requires candidates to demonstrate high research potential through standardized tests such as GATE, GMAT, or GRE, followed by multiple rounds of rigorous academic interactions.
IIM Ahmedabad CAT Cutoff
The cutoff for IIM Ahmedabad remains one of the highest in the country. While the minimum qualifying sectional percentile typically hovers around 70-80 for various categories, the actual calling percentile for the General category often exceeds 99+ due to extreme competition. Sectional balance is critical, as a high overall score cannot compensate for failing to meet the minimum threshold in Quantitative Ability (QA), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR), or Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC).
IIM Ahmedabad Fees
Program-wise Fees
The total fee for the two-year PGP program is approximately INR 25 lakhs to INR 27 lakhs. This includes tuition, library access, internet, and basic medical insurance. Fees for the PGPX program are generally higher, reflecting the intensive nature of the executive format.

Admission Criteria / Policy
IIM Ahmedabad utilizes a sophisticated composite score methodology to ensure a diverse and academically elite cohort. A central component of this is the Application Rating (AR) score, which evaluates a candidate based on their 10th, 12th, and Graduation percentages, as well as work experience. Similar to the depth found in policies at other top institutions like IIM Visakhapatnam, IIMA weights these academic “buckets” alongside the CAT score to ensure that students possess the consistency required for their rigorous curriculum. The “A1 to A6” academic classification system ensures that candidates from various streams (Science, Commerce, Arts) are evaluated fairly within their respective disciplines.
Reservation Policy
IIMA strictly follows the Government of India norms regarding reservations for SC, ST, NC-OBC, EWS, and PwD candidates. Each category has specific CAT cutoff relaxations and seats reserved to promote inclusivity within the management landscape.
Selection Criteria
The final selection list is prepared based on a Final Composite Score (FCS). This score is a weighted average of the Personal Interview grade, AWT grade, and the Normalized AR score. The institute emphasizes “Academic Diversity” to ensure a rich classroom experience.
Academic Requirements
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% for SC/ST/PwD). Those in their final year of graduation are eligible to apply provided they complete their requirements by Date and submit the proof of degree by the institute’s deadline.
