In November 1961, the Indian government, in partnership with the Ford Foundation, the West Bengal government, Alfred P. Sloan School of Management (MIT), and Indian industry, founded the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC), the country’s first national centre for post-graduate studies and research in management. Its core comprised a number of well-known faculty members in its early years, including Jagdish Sheth and J. K. Sengupta.
In order to achieve its objectives in a constantly shifting commercial environment, the institute operates as an independent organisation today.

The eligible candidates must apply online at www.iimidr.ac.in and pay the non-refundable, non-transferable application fee.

In order to apply under the NC-OBC, SC, ST, and PwD categories, candidates must present valid caste/category certificate(s) supporting their reservation status. Similarly, candidates under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) must present a valid document proving their eligibility.
IIM Calcutta Selection Criteria 2023 – Key Highlights
- The 85th percentile for the ‘General’ category has been established as the minimum overall CAT 2023 cut-off. For the QA section, the 75th percentile has been established as the minimum cut-off. The 80th percentile represents the cut-offs for the remaining two categories.
- IIM Calcutta’s selection criteria still do not involve graduation marks (phew!). Yet, grades 10 and 12 are still significant. But anyone who scores above 80% in their tenth and twelfth grades receives the highest possible score.
- The majority of engineers continue to be underrepresented in academics. But engineers with a bachelor’s degree in something other than engineering still receive some credit!
- In IIM Calcutta’s shortlisting procedure, lawyers and CA/CS/ICWA or an IFAI have an advantage, as has always been the case.
- Approximately two thirds of the whole weight is assigned to your CAT scores during the first WAT-PI round shortlisting process. Following the WAT-PI procedure, your WAT-PI performance receives 56% of the weight, whereas your CAT 2023 scores receive 30% of the weight.
- Phase 1: Eliminating candidates based on CAT percentile cut-off

Phase 2: Shortlisting candidates for WAT-PI based on weighted score following the CAT cut-offs-based screening of candidates, IIM Calcutta will compute a weighted score based on a variety of factors, such as your CAT 2023 performance, academic profile, and diversity.
