WHAT IS NMAT?
The NMAT (Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies Management Aptitude Test) is a national-level entrance exam conducted for admission to MBA and other management programs at NMIMS University and several other reputed B-Schools across India and abroad.
Key highlights of NMAT include:
- Conducting Body: Administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), which also conducts the GMAT.
- Test Format:
- Computer-based and adaptive.
- Allows candidates to select the order of sections.
- Comprises Language Skills, Quantitative Skills, and Logical Reasoning.
- Scoring: The exam uses a scaled scoring system to ensure fairness.

NMAT ELIGIBILITY
The NMAT by GMAC is a standardized entrance exam used for admissions to various graduate business programs in India and other countries.
General Eligibility Criteria:
Educational Qualification: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree (10+2+3/4) in any discipline from a recognized university.
Minimum Marks: A minimum aggregate score of 50% in the bachelor’s degree is typically required.
Final Year Students: Individuals in the final year of their bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply, provided they can furnish the necessary documents upon completion.
Age Limit: There is no age restriction for taking the NMAT exam.
Institution-Specific Criteria:
While the above criteria serve as general guidelines, individual institutions may have additional requirements.
For instance:
NMIMS University:
MBA & MBA HR Programs: Requires a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks.
MBA Pharmaceutical Management: Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, MBBS, BDS, Science, BAMS, BHMS, B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Biotechnology, or a postgraduate degree in Psychology, Sociology, or Economics, with a minimum of 50% marks. Additionally, candidates with two or more years of work experience in pharmaceutical companies are preferred.
ISB (Indian School of Business):
- Advanced Management Programme in Business Analytics: Requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or Science, with mathematics or programming as part of the curriculum, and at least two years of full-time work experience.
International Candidates:
International applicants must have a recognized bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks.
Proficiency in English is required, often demonstrated through tests like TOEFL or IELTS.
Some institutions may require a valid GMAT score and relevant work experience.
Number of Attempts:
Candidates can take the NMAT exam up to three times within a single testing window, with the best score considered for admission.
Work Experience:
While not mandatory for all programs, having prior work experience of at least 2-3 years can be advantageous during the admission process.

NMAT REGISTRATION
Registering for NMAT by GMAC Exam:
- Click on ‘Register for NMAT by GMAC™’ on www.mba.com/nmat and create an account using a valid email address.
- Fill in the required details under ‘Manage NMAT Profile.’
- Check your email for a verification message and follow the instructions. If not found, check the junk/spam folder or click “Resend Email Verification.”
- Click on the “NMAT by GMAC™ Dashboard” on the mba.com/nmat page to access the Candidate Dashboard.
- Complete the application form on the Candidate Dashboard. Ensure your name and date of birth match your Photo ID exactly.
- Select the schools to send your scores to in the School Preferences section. The registration fee covers sending scores to 5 schools. Additional schools can be added for INR 400 + taxes per school.
- Upload a recent photograph (not more than 6 months old) that matches your Photo ID. This photo will appear on your admit card.
- Pay the exam fee.

Scheduling the Exam:
- After registration and payment, schedule your exam from the Candidate Dashboard by clicking “Book Exam Slot.”
- Choose the exam mode as “At Test Centre” and click Submit.
- Read and agree to the policies on the exam scheduler and click PROCEED.
- Select the Country, City, Test Centre, and preferred exam date and time.
- Download your admit card from the Candidate Dashboard 7 days before the scheduled exam date.
Retakes:
- You can take the NMAT by GMAC™ exam up to three times within a testing cycle (from July 1st to June 30th of the next year).
- After completing a previous attempt, you can schedule a retake by paying the retake fee through the dashboard.
- If you have received a valid score, you can book your next attempt immediately, but it must be scheduled at least 15 days after the previous attempt.
- If you have a NoShow, NDA Refused, or Exam Incomplete status on your scorecard, you can book your next attempt after 24 hours.

NMAT EXAM CUT-OFF
The NMAT by GMAC™ exam pattern consists of three sections that assess different skill sets. Below is a breakdown of the exam pattern:

- Marking Scheme:
- +3 for each correct answer
- -1 for each incorrect answer (negative marking for Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning)
- No negative marking for Language Skills section
- No marks deducted for unattempted questions

Important Points:
- Adaptive Nature: NMAT is a computer-based adaptive test. The difficulty level of the questions may increase or decrease based on your previous responses.
- Sectional Time Limit: Each section has a fixed time limit. Once you complete a section, you cannot go back to it.
- No Negative Marking in LS: There is no penalty for wrong answers in the Language Skills section, unlike the other two sections.
The exam is designed to test a candidate’s knowledge, reasoning ability, and language proficiency in a timed manner, simulating a real-world business scenario.
