Parajumbles Question 2 - CAT 2020

Question

It advocated a conservative approach to antitrust enforcement that espouses faith in efficient markets and voiced suspicion regarding the merits of judicial intervention to correct anticompetitive practices.

Many industries have consistently gained market share, the lion’s share – without any official concern; the most successful technology companies have grown into veritable titans, on the premise that they advance ‘public interest’.

That the new anticompetitive risks posed by tech giants like Google, Facebook, and Amazon, necessitate new legal solutions could be attributed to the dearth of enforcement actions against monopolies and the few cases challenging mergers in the USA.

The criterion of ‘consumer welfare standard’ and the principle that antitrust law should serve consumer interests and that it should protect competition rather than individual competitors was an antitrust law introduced by, and named after, the ‘Chicago school’.

Correct Sequence: 4123
Explanation: Sentence 4 establishes the primary topic anchor of the paragraph, introducing the "consumer welfare standard" developed by the Chicago school of legal thought. Sentence 1 uses an immediate pronoun reference ("It advocated...") to continue detailing the specific marketplace beliefs of this legal doctrine. Sentence 2 shows the real-world consequence of this long-standing hands-off approach: many modern industries and tech titans have expanded into unchecked monopolies. Sentence 3 concludes the flow by explaining that because of this history of low enforcement, the unique risks posed by modern tech monopolies now require brand new legal frameworks.
FundaMakers Tip: Resolving Independent Pronoun Links. A sentence starting with a pronoun like "It" (Sentence 1) must instantly link up to a singular noun entity in a preceding sentence. Here, "It" maps back perfectly to the ideology of the "Chicago school" defined in sentence 4, locking 4-1 together as your starting pair.
