1. What is the CAT exam pattern?

The CAT exam is divided into three sections:

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC)
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR)
Quantitative Ability (QA)
Each section is further divided into multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and non-MCQs. The exam is computer-based and lasts for 2 hours.

Q: How many questions are there in CAT?
A: The total number of questions is usually 66-68. Each section contains 24-22 questions. The exact number may vary slightly depending on the exam year.
Q: How long is the CAT exam?
A: The CAT exam lasts for 2 hours, with each section allocated 40 minutes. Candidates cannot switch between sections during the exam.

2. What is the eligibility for CAT?

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) from a recognized university. Final-year students are also eligible, provided they complete their degree before the admission process begins.

3. Is there an age limit for appearing for CAT?

No, there is no age limit for the CAT exam. As long as you meet the educational qualifications, you are eligible to appear for the exam.

4. How should I prepare for the CAT exam?

The CAT exam requires dedicated preparation in three areas:

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC): Focus on reading regularly, improving vocabulary, and practicing RCs and para-summary.
Quantitative Ability (QA): Revise basic concepts and formulas, solve practice problems, and focus on areas like Arithmetic, Algebra, and Geometry.
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR): Practice data sets and solve puzzles to improve logical thinking.
Additionally, taking mock tests regularly is crucial for improving time management and identifying weak areas.
